Is cold bathing healthy?

What is cold therapy?
Cold therapy involves short-term exposure to cold to activate the body's own healing mechanisms. There are several methods of cold therapy, and Mana makes use of immersion in the water. This means that the body is enveloped in water with a temperature of 4-15°C, for 3-5 minutes, with the abdomen (preferably also up to the neck) immersed. This can be practiced daily as part of a healthier lifestyle to reduce muscle soreness, fatigue, inflammation, and many other benefits.

What is the optimal temperature for an ice bath?
Ideally, the temperature in an ice bath should be below 15°C. We recommend gradually introducing your body to the cold and allowing it to build up a tolerance over time. If you are new to ice baths, you can start at a temperature close to 15°C and gradually lower it with each session. More experienced ice bathers tend to use temperatures between 4-10°C, as their bodies have adapted better to the cold.
What do ice baths do for the body?

Should I take a cold bath before or after my workout?
The optimal timing for ice baths varies depending on your training goals. Taking an ice bath in the morning can improve energy levels, focus and mood for the workout and the day. If you focus on strength training, it's best to ice bathe early in the day, either before your workout or wait 6 to 8 hours after finishing your workout. This is because one does not want to inhibit the positive strength- and muscle-building inflammation that occurs right after a workout.
How is an ice bath better than a cold shower?
Ice baths provide an instant feeling of coolness all over your body and ensure that every part of your body is immersed in water. To activate the body's natural healing processes, it is most effective to apply enveloping cold, including over the neck and abdominal region.
